Our St. Paul’s Newsletter is published at least four times a year. There is much information for every household in the parish, and this newsletter is worthy of reading and keeping for the next three months.
Most in this congregation have computers and internet service. St. Paul’s and the Diocese maintain websites with information, programs, videos, stories and histories. St. Paul’s and the Diocese also have active Facebook pages, updated regularly. We are attempting to video the service and place it on these sites weekly. We are still in a steep learning curve.
Yet many among us have no computer, no WIFI or internet, and no knowledge of how to access this and so much other helpful material available in the digital world. Please keep in touch with one another. Use your telephone! Since visiting is pretty much out of the question, we need to use what we have more than ever. AND it is time to find some new additional way to keep in touch. There is help, if only you will ask. Call us and ask, PLEASE.
First, internet service to your home: Do you have Comcast cable for your television? Comcast offers internet service to seniors, with special programs to help low income households. Call your Comcast provider at 1-800-934-6484, XFINITY customer service. Ask for senior services.
Second, is the purchase of a device to receive the internet. Computers and Laptops are best, but expensive, complicated, and not very user friendly unless you have experience. For beginners at any age, the easiest to see and use is a Tablet that is large enough to see and type on. A cell phone is another good tool for internet use if it is an Android or IPhone (a smart phone). But the print is small, and the controls are not obvious. The easiest way to purchase a Tablet is to stop at the electronics counter in Walmart and ask for someone who knows how to use and set up a Tablet. The prices are usually $100 - $200. I’ve seen as low as $44.00.
Third, is to get help on how to use your new device and make sure everything is working at home. This is why God created young people. Ask a young relative, or let someone connect you with someone you can trust. Don’t let this new thing frustrate you! Take one step at a time, and enter into this new environment slowly. WHY? Because now you can be in touch with your family and friends, see one another live on the screen, smile, laugh, listen and learn. And you will feel more and more that you are a part of your greater family, your church, and your community. All this from the comfort of your own home.
